Our Projects

GERD

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is a 6,450 MW hydropower project nearing completion on the Blue Nile in Ethiopia, located about 30 km upstream of the border with Sudan. It will be the largest hydropower project in Africa.

Lake Tana

Lake Tana is the largest single lake in Ethiopia and forms the main reservoir for the Blue Nile. It's surface area is about 2156 square kilometers. The Lake is located at an altitude of 1788 metres on the north central plateau of Amhara.

Watershed

The Blue Nile runs from Lake Tana's southeast corner, and flowing south over a lava dam to form the Tis Abay Falls. The Blue Nile contributes two thirds of all the Nile discharge, and covers about 4750 kilometres through Egypt and to the Mediterranean.
